About this paper

In 1967 and 1968, Ya. B. Zel'dovich wrote down the debt plainly: add up the zero-point fluctuations of the fields we already know, and the vacuum density you get is grotesquely larger than the vacuum density the universe allows. That is the original statement of the vacuum catastrophe, before the catastrophe had the name, and in my judgment it is still its hardest form — because it does not depend on any new physics being right. It depends only on the fields already on the books refusing to add up to the number on the sky. For fifty years the standard exit from that debt was supersymmetry: an exact supersymmetry cancels the fluctuation sum, partner against partner, and a supersymmetry broken at the TeV scale leaves, in the census's accounting, "only" about sixty orders of magnitude unexplained. The exit was rational. It was the best exit ever built. It was also a promissory note: it waited on partners that had to show up where the cancellation needed them. The Large Hadron Collider looked for them there, through its full program, and did not find them — no superpartners, with limits on colored sparticles now in the multi-TeV class. The partner that was supposed to cancel half the bill never came. This paper prices that dead end from my side of the ledger, and prices my own side with the same honesty. My corpus's catastrophe accounting stands at 121.5 dex at the record's conventions — the naive fluctuation sum overshoots the observed vacuum density by about 121.5 orders of magnitude in my program's own bookkeeping, done in Einstein–Cartan dress at the frame's torsion-side scale. That is a re-pricing of Zel'dovich's statement, not an answer to it. My frame produces no cancellation mechanism and claims none: its torsion does not cancel the zero-point sum, and its bounce re-sites where the value is read; it does not subtract the sum. The measured toll, 3Ω_Λ = 2.055, stands NOT PRODUCED; its production form is owned as form only, at a declared input. The residue stands adopted, never derived. Grade for this dead end, printed at full size: PREMISE-ONLY. The program headline stands unmoved: vacuum catastrophe NOT SOLVED / PARTIAL, producing-count 0.
