The Mass-to-Light Freedom, Priced: Fifteen Υ Points, Nine Forms, No Closure on SPARC

Abstract

The Square's kill — no form in the named nine-form space closes both locks on SPARC — was measured at one assumed pair of stellar mass-to-light ratios: Υ_disk = 0.5, Υ_bul = 0.7, baked into every baryonic acceleration the machinery computed. This paper asks whether the kill was the assumption. It sweeps the full registered grid — Υ_disk ∈ 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, Υ_bul ∈ 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, fifteen points — through the Square's own machinery, all nine named forms at every point, 135 cells in all, with the inherited locks at their inherited thresholds. No cell closes. Sixty-one cells die on the scatter lock. Seventy-one die on the intercept offset. Three cells pass every full-set term and get the full verdict machinery — the baseline survivor, ν_q at q = 0.50, and two new full-set passes the freedom buys at high Υ (simple at (0.7, 0.7), McGaugh at (0.7, 0.9)) — and all three fail replication, on the same split that killed the baseline survivor: the high-V_f regime, at slopes 3.24–3.27. The two new passes carry their own warning on their face: their frozen lines center at −0.157 and −0.160 dex, outside the ±0.10 dex band the baseline anatomy lived in, so their small printed offsets are cancellations, not closures. The M_b bounding test (Arm S) moves the new candidates' point fits across the offset band in both directions and rescues no verdict. Two scope facts print here at the size they carry, not in a footnote: the sweep moves Υ inside g_bar only — the BTFR table's M_b stays at its shipped convention, bounded by Arm S — and Lock 0 cannot be executed off the baseline point, because the published RAR table ships fixed-convention pairs with no galaxy names. The verdict does not route through Lock 0: it rests on the scatter lock, the closure lock, and replication, executed at every point. At the grid's size, the Square's kill is not an artifact of the assumed mass-to-light ratios.

The result, in plain language

The Square’s kill stood at one assumed pair of mass-to-light ratios. This paper sweeps fifteen registered points of the Υ plane through the same machinery — 135 cells, no cell closes, and the two new full-set passes the freedom buys die on the same regime wall as the baseline. The kill is not an M/L artifact.

The two new passes carry their warning on their face: their frozen lines center at −0.157 and −0.160 dex, outside the ±0.10 dex band the baseline anatomy lived in, so their small printed offsets are cancellations, not closures. And the verdict does not route through Lock 0, which cannot be executed off the baseline point — it rests on the scatter lock, the closure lock, and replication, executed at every point.

Program note

This paper is Cube Campaign Batch 1, target C-01 — the first registered stress test of the Square: One Scale, Two Tables (paper 82) and Nine Forms, Three Rescues (paper 83) killed the algebraic one-scale class at one assumed pair of mass-to-light ratios, and this paper prices that assumption across the full registered grid. Its grades are printed on its face: the sweep is measured over all 135 cells, the baseline rows re-derived digit-for-digit (max |Δ| = 0.0), and one deviation is declared — D-L0, Lock 0 not executable off the baseline point, because the published RAR table ships fixed-convention pairs with no galaxy names — with the verdict resting on the scatter lock, the closure lock, and replication, mirroring Cycle 2’s D-C0 handling. What stands open after it is named in the paper: a consistent-M_b sweep, which needs a disk/bulge-split dataset registration.
